We are in the heart of downtown New York, a vibrant crossroads of business and leisure. Here recently, the global design firm MAWD, with offices in London, New York, Beverly Hills and Dubai, presented the design of an imposing residential tower to an international audience.

The 912-foot-high tower, one of the last designed by the recently deceased Uruguayan-born architect Rafael Viñoly, is a masterpiece of modernity, built by builders Fortress Investment Group, Bizzi & Partners and Bilgili Holding.

Characterised by the strong contrast between modernity and classicism inherent in its rounded glass façade, the avant-garde structure – with an exceptional view from its floor-to-ceiling windows over the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty and the World Trade Center – shaped  MAWD‘s vision for the building’s interior, aiming to emphasise the flow of natural light and a relaxing, airy aesthetic.

MAWD therefore chose to adopt a sophisticated approach for the interior, working closely with the architectural firm and choosing distinctive materials to emphasise the tower’s height and elegance. The clearly architecturally inspired interior design sought to amplify space, natural light and highlight the building’s exterior.

MAWD succeeded perfectly in integrating its interior design work with Viñoly’s architectural project, resulting in no less than three customised palettes for the tower’s different residences: Aqua, Terra and Stratus, each evoking the elements that characterise the urban landscape around the tower. These carefully selected shades allow even the smallest details to stand out and complement the view of the flats.

The Residences and the Penthouse

The Greenwich features 272 residences, ranging from studios to three bedrooms apartments, as well as an exclusive Penthouse. The curved, full-height, floor-to-ceiling curtain walls offer a wide range of views of New York City, while creating a meaningful connection between inside and outside.
For the residences, MAWD worked to select the highest quality natural materials and finishes that invite luxurious and comfortable living.

The utterly chic penthouse was furnished by Artemest and achives the perfect balance between tradition and style

This penthouse represents the realization of an unprecedented residential concept that was developed by the well-known Italian luxury design platform Artemest: in fact, the furnishings and decorations selected to be present throughout the building come from this platform.

The penthouse with its interior represents the hyperbole of this concept, with a scheme that takes the contemporary, curved form of the building and imbues it with a timeless classicism. So, when it came to selecting furniture, lighting, art and décor, Artemest, whose digital platform offers users from all over the world privileged access to contemporary Italian craftsmanship, was a natural partner.

The pieces selected one by one for The Greenwich, i.e. furniture, lighting and decorative objects, are not just a showcase of luxury, but are the product of the craftsmanship of a select group of over 55 Italian artisans from 10 regions of Italy, who have harnessed their different skills and styles to create something unique and unconventional.

MAWD and Artemest found themselves united by a common modus operandi, focused on storytelling and creating a deep meaning rooted in place. In this case, the unique history and energy of the New York skyline merged with the rich design heritage of Italy.

Bronzetto with the lamp Perpetua, designed by Valeria Giuva, is among the Italian brands chosen for the Penthouse of The Greenwich by Rafael Viñoly

Among the many highly qualified Italian craftsmen, designers and brands represented in the most exclusive international markets by the well-known Artemest marketplace, Bronzetto was selected with its Perpetua line of lamps to illuminate one of the most scenic and prestigious residences in the entire tower.

Artemest and the interior design studio MAWD have in fact transformed this penthouse into a veritable gallery where the finest Italian artefacts can be admired.

With the Perpetua collection, designed by Valeria Giuva,  Bronzetto, has created a work that celebrates the natural beauty of water through the universal language of contemporary design. Since 1963 the Florentine workshop has dedicated itself to the most refined workmanship in bronze and brass and has developed a great aptitude for light design, as well as furniture and décor.

“‘We are proud that Perpetua was chosen among the many Italian creations represented by Artemest, – says Francesca Amato, Bronzetto’s marketing manager, – not only because it represents us in its entirety, but because it is a confirmation of both the value of our artisan roots and the attention we give to the search for new design ideas. The Perpetua line was born thanks to a project in collaboration with the University of Architecture of Florence as part of the Master of Design course and from the creative idea of one of the students, Valeria Giuva.”

The Perpetua Lamp, inspired by the pure and essential shape of the drop, represents a perfect combination of traditional craftsmanship and innovation. The transparent or amber-coloured blown glass drop conceals an LED light, while a decorative brass element – worked with goldsmithing techniques such as embossing and hammering – envelops the drop like a tight-fitting dress, enhancing its delicacy. Available in smooth, embossed and hammered versions, and declined in chandelier, wall and floor lamp, Perpetua offers a unique and versatile interpretation of nature, perfectly in line with Bronzetto‘s eclectic and refined aesthetic.

Artemest, a benchmark for Italian design and craftsmanship around the world, has chosen Perpetua as a symbol of Made in Italy excellence. This lamp, with its distinctive design, illuminates and embellishes sophisticated settings such as the Penthouse, where the refined elegance of the light colours blends with the burnished amber of the brass finish, and confirms Bronzetto as one of the undisputed protagonists of the international high craftsmanship scene.

Perpetua, available in different configurations (wall, ceiling, and floor), as well as in all its variants of finishes and workmanship, represents not only a beautiful synthesis of tradition and innovation, but also Bronzetto’s constant commitment to celebrating the beauty and quality that make Italian design unique in the world.
